Welcome to UPH CITI!
Established in September 2014, UPH’s Center for Trade and Investment (CITI)’s objective is to raise awareness in Indonesia of the importance of an outward-looking and liberal trade and investment policy, to ensure the country’s continued commercial competitiveness and support its economic development goals. From 2014-2017, CITI conducted several research, education, and outreach initiatives with the generous support of the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs and the World Trade Institute, Switzerland. CITI is responsible for implementing trade-related academic activities (research, course development, and outreach) in Indonesia.
Research, among others: Aid for Trade in Lowering Trade Costs: Overcoming Infrastructure and Institutional Constraints in Indonesia; the Indonesian Mineral Export Restriction; Economic Diplomacy Performance: an Evaluation of Indonesia’s International Trade and Investment Agreements; Indonesian Food Security Policy; and Trade and Sustainable Development Chapter in the Prospective Indonesia-EU CEPA.

Outreach activities, among others: distinguished guest seminar titled ‘Nairobi 2015: A Make or Break Moment’ by Iman Pambagyo – Former Indonesian Ambassador to the WTO – 8 December 2015; Seminar in cooperation with the Economic Research Institute of ASEAN and East Asia entitled ‘A Bridge Too Far? Sceptical Ruminations on the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership’ by Pierre Sauve of WTI – 3 May 2016; Brown Bag Seminar entitled ‘ASEAN-MERCOSUR: Unlocking the Potential of Economic Cooperation’ by Dr. Ignacio Bartesaghi of Catholic University of Uruguay – 6 March 2017; Seminar ‘Trade and the Rule of Law in the Trump Era’ by Prof. Michael Ewing Chow of NUS, Paolo Vergano of FratiniVergano and Michelle Limenta of UPH – 26 April 2017; Public lecture by Meg Kinnear – the Secretary General of ICSID on ‘How International Investors and States Resolve (Many of) Their Disputes’ – 18 December 2016.
Course development, among others: Reviewing and updating the syllabus related to international trade law and preparing the 12-week course consisting of PowerPoint slides, infographics, and supplemented by exercises and case studies.
